There are very nearly as many definitions as there are people inhabiting the earth! I stumbled across God’s definition as I was studying Isaiah 31:

• Look to God and seek Him (verse 1)
• Spirit is stronger than flesh – so function in it (verse 3)
• Return to God whom we have deeply defected (verse 6)

When we do these things God will protect us, deliver us, pass over us, and rescue us (verse 5)

And we will escape God’s sword of war (verse 8).
